“I was ready to give everything up, but now I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
Lauren was at an all-time low when she dropped out of university in 2019. Having been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, she was in constant pain and her weight had spiralled out of control as she turned to food for comfort.
With her wedding day looming, and hopes of finishing her degree fading away, Lauren decided it was time for change. Four months on, she’s dropped four dress sizes, her fibromyalgia has cleared and she’s looking forward to the future for the first time in years!
Lauren Doyle, a 25-year-old operating department practitioner student from Windle, always took pride in looking her best at all times, never seen without a full set of lashes or a glowing tan, and looking fabulous in on-trend clothes from the high streets of St Helens.
Then; in 2015, she was involved in a terrible car crash, suffering injuries that caused trauma in her body that led to her developing what doctors thought at the time to be an underactive thyroid.
Lauren said: “Soon after the crash, I started to pile on weight. I went from being a confident 9st 11lbs to a depressed 18st 1lb woman who just wanted to hide away and sleep all day.
“I tried dieting, swimming and everything else the doctors suggested, but they couldn’t quite put their finger on what was causing me to pile on the weight. After months of tests and visiting various specialists, I was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a condition that causes constant pain and fatigue. I thought that would be a turning point but the doctors kind of brushed me off, and I was left to deal with my problems alone the only way I knew how – food.
“I started to drown my feelings in takeaways and comfort eating – my weight spiralled out of control. I felt like I was on my own, and I couldn’t bring myself to leave the house and socialise like I used to. At the peak of unhappiness and pain, as my weight piled on, I couldn’t face going out every day and I dropped out of university. That’s when I really started to let myself go. If I stayed at home, I didn’t have to truly face the reality of how big I was. My own mother and my partner barely recognised me. I was no longer the Lauren that they knew and loved, I was depressed and it showed, and I felt even worse on the inside. I wore the same clothes day in and day out, and I knew I was sucking the life out of the people around me, but I just couldn’t help it. I was at breaking point.
“My wedding was one year away. I had picked out the dress of my dreams as soon as the engagement ring was on my finger; but hadn’t tried it on for a few months. My mum dragged me out for a fitting and to her horror the dress was too tight. I felt absolutely nothing.”
Discovering Bodyline Clinic
Lauren went home from her dress fitting and continued to sleep, eat and repeat. Her life had become a tedious self-destructive ritual revolving around takeaways, and not even the looming deadline of her wedding was motivating her to break the cycle and get fit.
Lauren said: “One day, I sat up in bed and looked across at myself in the mirror. What stared back at me had to change. It was like a flame ignited inside me, and I decided it was time to pull myself back from the brink. After beginning to focus on me again and weeks of dieting and any exercise I could manage, I had barely noticed a difference – when I got on the scales, I was horrified to see that I’d gained 5lbs! I confided in my mum and she suggested I made an appointment in our local Bodyline Clinic at St Helens. I was very skeptical, but due to my fibromyalgia and not being able to do much exercise, I decided to give it a go.
My Bodyline Plan
“The nurses were amazing from the moment I stepped in. They comforted me despite my lack of confidence. They prescribed Phentermine tablets and answered any questions I had along the way. I came back after my first week, stepped on the scales and was absolutely taken aback by what I saw. I asked the nurse to double check, but it was true, to my amazement I had lost 5lbs! The second week I lost about the same, and it’s been quite consistent ever since.
“With three months to go until my big day, I’m having to get my dress made smaller! My wedding dress has gone from a size 16 to a size 12, and there’s no sign of it slowing down, I can’t wait to hit my target. Bodyline has helped me get my life back on track. I’m going back to university in September to finish my degree, and I feel like a new woman.
“The most amazing part of it is that my fibromyalgia symptoms have almost completely cleared and become more manageable as I’ve lost weight, and I’m no longer in constant pain. This isn’t the end of my journey with Bodyline. I know I’ll feel amazing when I put on that perfect white dress in June, and I can’t wait to get started in university again to pursue my dream job.
“Thank you, Bodyline for not only teaching me how to be happy again but easing my fibromyalgia.”
