Was one of your New Year’s resolutions to be fitter this year? Well, we’re here to help. We often think of getting fit as something that is going to cost us a lot of money. A gym membership, extra classes, a personal trainer, they all cost money but you don’t really need any of those things to improve your fitness!

10,000 Steps a Day
The easiest way to improve your fitness and one of our top tips for improving your health this year is to do your 10,000 steps a day!
It doesn’t cost a penny to get out in the fresh air and put one foot in front of the other, so it is definitely worth setting yourself the challenge of hitting your 10,000 steps a day!
The only cost will be a good pair of comfy walking shoes or trainers!
HIIT Workout Videos on YouTube
There’s a video for everything on YouTube nowadays and they’re all free to access, so why not check out some of the at-home workout videos online?
Professional personal trainers such as Lucy Wyndham-Read, Joe Wicks and The Lean Machines regularly post workout videos on YouTube that take under 10 minutes and you can do in your own front room and they don’t cost a penny and rarely need any equipment.
Couch to 5K App
A fitness phenomenon that went crazy in 2019, the Couch to 5K app is free to download and use and could turn you into a bit of a runner.
The concept is that by following an easy programme that builds up stamina, strength and agility, you could go from running for just 30 seconds to running a 5k in just a few weeks and it works! So many people have loved the app, including celebrities and influencers and have genuinely improved their fitness by following this free training app, so why not download it and see what it’s all about?
Attend a Parkrun
If you’ve never heard of a Parkrun, then they are free 5K run for all abilities, arranged by the Parkrun organisation. The aim is to help people get fit for free, either alone or with friends or family and maybe even make a bit of a social event out of it too.
Parkrun organise weekly runs up and down the UK, so wherever you are, there is bound to be one near you and you can join in, without paying anything, whatever your level of fitness, so there really is no reason to not give them a go.
Get Out With the Kids
If you’re a parent wanting to get fit but don’t feel like you have the time or money to do so because of your little ones then they could actually be your ticket to getting fitter.
We all know that running around after the kids burns plenty of calories, so why not make more of a habit of getting out with the kids? Whether it’s walking behind them while they’re on a bike ride or taking them to the park to kick a ball around, doing this 3-4 times a week for just an hour a day could see you up your steps, burn calories and improve energy levels, as well as providing time to bond with the kids!
Getting your daily exercise in doesn’t have to break the bank and you certainly don’t have to be wealthy to get fit with ideas like this available to you!
