A lot of people find it hard to get motivated to exercise on a daily basis. Wanting to make a change and actually doing it are two different things, but there are a few things you can do to give yourself a bit of an extra push.
Develop A Ritual
Habits are behaviours that you repeat over and over again. Developing a routine that you do before and after exercising can be vital, whether it’s the same music to help you stick to a certain timeframe or the same warm up routine, it will eventually become automatic.
Start Small
There’s no point in trying to get stuck in with a complicated exercise that you’re going to struggle with. Start off with a small, simple routine that you will be able to do easily so that your expectations are not destroyed. Try to focus on small bursts of movement that you can repeat as many times as you like in two minute intervals – this way you won’t be disappointed in yourself, and the more you do, the more accomplished you’ll feel.
Focus On The Habit
Instead of focusing on the results, focus more on creating the habit when you start. If you set yourself a weight-loss goal then you risk the chance of feeling upset if you don’t achieve it. If you set an open goal of developing a habit by a certain date, then you’re more likely to achieve it as this is something that can be measured by your own determination each day. Once you become the kind of person that doesn’t want to miss a workout, you’ll know you’re well on your way.
Once you start exercising regularly, you can start to set yourself weight-loss or personal best targets to work towards. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you can get into the habit of exercise. You might even start to enjoy it!
