GLP1's Weekly Pills Pens and Progress 11

Posted on October 8, 2026 by Sally-Anne Turner

As we head into October, oral Wegovy UK remains the leading oral weight-loss medication in the UK, ahead of Foundayo.

As before, there has been a shift from people searching for “weight loss injections near me” to oral options with their GLP-1 medications. Our team at Bodyline have noted this and are aiming to make our specialised services more suited to helping those on oral weight loss medications, as well as injectable options.

Even with this shift, the research in this area continues to expand. And, as with each week, our team at the Bodyline Clinic aims to keep you up to date with the latest advancements in GLP-1s.

With that in mind, let’s look at what is changing in the world of weight-loss medication research in GLP-1s Weekly, Pills, Pens and Progress 11.

Exercise Pill in Preclinical Trials

Can the biological benefits of exercise be reproduced using a pill?

Of course, with GLP-1s, one of the core considerations when devising a treatment plan is the exercise regimen to follow. However, one compound that is attracting a lot of attention in the medical field right now is SLU-PP-332. This is also known as the “exercise mimetic.”

It differs from GLP-1 medications. It does not suppress appetite in the same way. Rather, it targets proteins called oestrogen-related receptors (ERRs). These help regulate energy use, mitochondrial activity, and how muscles respond to exercise. The research paper from 2024 suggests that activating these can trigger the same metabolic processes that occur with aerobic exercise.

As with many of these studies, the mouse studies show that SLU-PP-332 increased energy expenditure. This led to fat oxidation and reduced fat accumulation. In one study involving mice with diet-induced obesity, mice receiving this medication weighed about 12% less after 28 days than animals that did not receive it. The researchers also spotted improvements in insulin sensitivity. They have also been trying to chemically synthesise SLU-PP-332 and aim to identify how future medicines could target ERR signalling.

This is encouraging. However, it is premature to conclude that this will replace other medications in this field. The data is preclinical and only shows effects in mice. It may not work on people.

However, watch this space. In a few years, it may be offered alongside GLP-1s for weight loss, possibly based on NHS BMI data.

Patients Sue GLP-1 Drugmakers Over Risk of Sudden Vision Loss

In a worrying turn of events, a growing number of people in the US are seeking legal action against pharmaceutical teams that create GLP-1s. This is due to an apparent sight loss related to the medication, called non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION).

NAION occurs when the blood flow to the optic nerves becomes disrupted or blocked. This can cause sudden and sometimes permanent vision loss. In Pennsylvania, lawsuits alleging GLP-1-related NAION have been consolidated into federal multidistrict litigation.

A wide range of attention has been centred on semaglutide, the core ingredient in the Wegovy pill UK and Ozempic. Observational studies have found a link between this medication and NAION. However, no solid evidence shows that semaglutide can cause this condition. Another thing to note is that those who have diabetes (and may be led into taking these medications) can often develop these issues on their own.

The lawsuits allege that the core issue is that those who created these medications did not warn patients about these potential risks. So, this litigation therefore shouldn’t be interpreted as proof that GLP-1 medications cause blindness.

As we always say at Bodyline, such tragic cases highlight the need and the role for ongoing clinical support when taking GLP-1 medications.

GLP-1 Systematic Review Finds Weight Loss of Up to 24%

A key question our team at the Bodyline Clinic hears from patients is: which weight loss drug is best?

An updated systematic review highlights differences between established and emerging GLP-based treatments. In this study from the Annals of Internal Medicine, published in September 2026, researchers reviewed 38 randomised trials involving 25,816 adults classified as obese or overweight without diabetes.

Among the currently available treatments (adjusted for placebos) weight loss was

  1. 6% with liraglutide.
  2. 15% with semaglutide.
  3. 19% with tirzepatide (Mounjaro results seem to be consistently higher).
  4. 12% with oral Foundayo or orforglipron.

Experimental treatments have been noted to have even more extreme results.

Amycretin, which targets GLP-1 and amylin pathways, created adjusted weight loss reductions approaching 24%. Triple hormone agonist Retatrutide reached weight loss of around 22%.

Remember, those last two are experimental. They aren’t available on prescription yet and are still in the development phase. As always, watch this space.
