If you’ve been following the news, you’ve likely seen that GLP-1s keep breaking out of their box. They are expanding into an entire realm of healthcare treatments beyond weight loss or diabetes management.
Indeed, these pills and pens are now being experimented with in healthcare for heart disease prevention, helping with addiction and even kidney health. Of course, it all starts with research into any GLP-1 UK.
What’s new in this field? Read on in GLP-1s Weekly, Pills, Pen and Progress 12.
We all know that GLP-1s can help people who fall into the overweight or obese category with secondary health issues.
However, a new analysis also suggests that the cardiovascular benefits that are linked to GLP-1medications may also be helpful to those who have a BMI below the regular threshold.
The research from the UK Biobank and Copenhagen General Population Study looked at data from more than 313,000 adults. They looked at people who had a BMI of 25–26.9 kg/m° who did not have diabetes or a diagnosed cardiovascular disease. They assessed markers of remnant cholesterol and C-reactive protein. Both of these indicate low-grade inflammation.
Approximately 48% of UK Biobank participants and 44% of the Copenhagen group within this relatively low BMI range had elevated remnant cholesterol, inflammation or both. This is not surprising. At Bodyline weight loss clinic, we are aware of the fact that you don’t need to be overweight to have high cholesterol. However, having this increases the risk of heart disease, on par with those who may meet the GLP-1 prescribing criteria.
You know the drill. We need to be careful here, as this does not state that prescribing GLP-1s to people with a BMI of 25–26.9 improves cardiovascular outcomes. It noted a link between two very different groups and seeks to establish whether extending treatment in this population has more benefits than harm.

Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) is known to be linked to higher rates of weight loss, especially when compared to Wegovy.
However, early trials note that when tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound) is given with the experimental drug tirzepatide, the weight loss could be greater than just Mounjaro weight loss.
The researchers recruited 367 adults from the US and Argentina. These adults were overweight or obese and had type 2 diabetes. They were given either 15 mg of tirzepatide, combinations of tirzepatide and different doses of eloralintide, or a placebo. The difference is that eloralintide targets amylin, whereas tirzepatide activates GLP-1 and GIP receptors.
After 11months, the results were as follows:
Those taking 15 mg of tirzepatide lost around 14.8% of their body weight.
Those receiving tirzepatide and eloralintide lost 23.3%, which was around 24.5 kg.
The placebo group lost 3% of their body weight.
These are phase 2b results presented at the 2026 European Association for the Study of Diabetes meeting. Again, this is not evidence that this combination is ready to be a part of routine weight loss treatment.

Retatrutide research continues. The experimental drug, which activates GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptors (a triple agonist), has been through phase 3 testing.
The TRIUMPH 2 trial involved 1,152 people with obesity and type 2 diabetes. Lasting 80 weeks, the participants received 4 mg, 9 mg or 12 mg Retatrutide or placebo.
The weight loss increased with the dosage:
Those receiving 4mg lost 29.8 lb (13.5 kg),
Those receiving 9 mg lost 45.4 lb (20.6 kg),
Those who were in the 12 mg group lost approximately 49.6 lb (22.5 kg). More than 20% of their body weight.
The placebo group lost around 9.3 lb.
Around 6 in 10 of the participants who received 12mg were no longer classified as having obesity after 80 weeks. Their blood glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure also improved. Depending on dose, 28.4–40% achieved normalised blood glucose levels.
It’s a triple agonist. So, it came with side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation. This did require weight loss support from the research team to mitigate.
As is the case, this is an investigational piece. However, the Phase 3 finding potentially puts this triple agonist in the next generation of weight loss treatments.
