Links Between Obesity And Dementia

There has recently been a lot of media attention surrounding obesity and the risk factors that come alongside it – firstly a link between COVID-19 and obesity, and now new evidence has emerged that links obesity with dementia in later life. With the current global pandemic causing a serious threat to many people’s lives, and many more health risks being linked with obesity in general, it’s important now more than ever to make changes to your lifestyle in order to live a longer and happier life.

The Research

Scientists from University College London (UCL) have conducted research that reveals a very real link between obesity and dementia. Participants with a BMI of over 30 had a 31% greater chance of developing dementia in later life, and women with higher abdominal fat had a 39% increased risk of developing dementia. Experts are now warning that the UK could be facing a “ticking time-bomb” if nothing is done to tackle the obesity crisis that we’re facing.

What does this mean for me?

The evidence suggests that losing weight and lowering your BMI could drastically reduce your chances of developing dementia, and this could help to significantly reduce the amount of dementia cases and deaths every year worldwide. Obesity is also a huge contributing factor and cause of many other health problems, including cancer, heart disease and diabetes. If you have a strong family history of any of these obesity related health conditions, reducing your BMI and leading a healthier lifestyle could help you live a much longer life and prevent you from developing any of these life-threatening problems.

How can I reduce my risk?

Weight loss is the number one thing that you can do to help stop yourself from developing any of the above diseases. Here at Bodyline, many of our clients have begun their journey with the intentions of minimising their health risks, and our medication has proven to be a successful way of doing so.

Our prescription medications are an excellent way of getting your weight down by harnessing the appetite suppressing qualities of our ingredients. Our Phentermine, Diethylpropion and Saxenda SlimPens can be prescribed by any of our dedicated nurses, and our clinics are all CQC licensed, so you know you’ll be in the safest of hands.

If those don’t mix well with any medications that you’re already taking, we also offer a range of natural appetite suppressing options such as Phent H and our brand-new Fat Burner tablets that have similar effects, and can be taken in conjunction with any other medication!

Get in touch with our team on 0800 995 6036 if you would like to get a consultation booked in with one of our nurses, and they will be happy to answer any other questions you may have.
