Can I get WeGovy from my GP?
Your GP can refer you to a specialist weight management service where you could be prescribed WeGovy, but only if you meet certain criteria. WeGovy is approved for use by adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or more who have been diagnosed with obesity-related diseases and have not achieved weight loss with other treatments. However, people with a BMI between 30-34.9 with weight-related medical issues could also be prescribed the drug. It has been available to NHS patients in England from Sept 2023 is confirmed by manufacturer Novo Nordisk.
It’s important to remember that WeGovy is a new medication for the NHS, and there may be waitlists involved or you may not have the required criteria to be referred to the specialist weight management service.
