Planning ahead makes a huge difference when you’re trying to lose weight. It’s so easy to order takeaways or cook convenient food when you’re caught short and the kids are starving hungry, but a little preparation can go a long way.
If you plan out your meals over a week, you can be clever and make sure that you are using similar ingredients for a couple of meals in a row so that nothing goes to waste. You can take leftovers into consideration and swap out anything if need be so that you don’t have to throw anything away.
Choose mostly meals that you are comfortable cooking and that you know your family will enjoy, and maybe throw in one new recipe a week so that you can enjoy trying something different. If there’s a night that you know you’ll be home late, plan a slow cooker meal so that foods ready to eat when you’re back.
Make a shopping list and buy everything you’ll need at the beginning of the week. This way you’ll not have to worry about doing last minute shops or throwing together a few random ingredients and hoping for the best. You’ll feel a lot less stressed out about mealtimes and you might even look forward to getting stuck into cooking in the evenings!
If you want to be even more prepared, you can spend a bit of time on a Sunday evening prepping your food. You can pre chop all your ingredients for the next week’s meals, leaving them in containers or food bags in the fridge. This way, all you’ll have to do during the week is throw it all in a pan or in the oven and you’re set to go.
