Many of our Bodyline clients ask us how long it will take for them to lose weight, when you’re desperate to drop those dress sizes it can be hard to wait. But, unfortunately there’s no ‘one size fits all’ approach with this one. Starting weight, activity levels, diet, metabolism and many more factors all play a huge role in how your body will respond to losing weight, with some people’s progress being much quicker than others.
Losing weight can be beneficial in helping many health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, but it’s important that you are sensible and safe with your approach.
How does it work?
When you start to reduce your calorie intake, your body begins to use up the stored fat for energy, and so you gradually begin to lose weight. Here at Bodyline, we recommend trying to cut 800 calories out of your daily intake with the help from our appetite suppressing medication.
One pound of fat is made up of 3500 calories, so cutting out 800 calories a day for a week should be enough to see a 1.6lb weight loss. Combine this with exercise and an active lifestyle and you should be well on your way to achieving a steady weight loss and reaching your target.
Whilst we encourage this reduced calorie diet, it’s important that you do not starve yourself from nutrients and calories as this leads to health problems such as iron deficiency and lack of energy, and in some cases much more serious problems.
How can I lose weight healthily?
Set yourself realistic and achievable goals and make gradual changes to your diet and lifestyle in order to hit target weight loss of around 2lb each week. Make sure that you ask your Bodyline nurses for advice before making any drastic changes to your lifestyle. If you have any questions along the way, remember that we’re always at the end of the phone.
Once you start to make exercise and healthy eating a habit, you will start to enjoy it and feel much healthier and happier for it. It’s all about making lost-lasting changes and improvements to your relationship with food.
Do I need to lose weight?
Calculating your BMI should give you an idea of if you need to lose weight or not. At Bodyline, we only prescribe medication to those that have a BMI over 27, which we class as overweight. A BMI between the ranges of 18-25 is healthy and anything over 30 is classed as obese. If you’re measuring above that then you need to seriously consider making some changes in order to improve your overall health.
Working on the basis that you should achieve between one and two lbs weight loss per week, you can calculate how long it will take you to reach your target or healthy weight. Once you’ve hit that weight, it’s important that you don’t fall back into your old ways, otherwise you will inevitably put on the weight that you worked so hard to lose. Keeping your new eating habits and exercise routine is the best way of maintaining a healthy weight,. At this point, you can slightly relax your calorie count. Try to stick to no more than 2000 calories a day and your weight should remain the same!
