Self-Care to Get You Through the Winter

Whilst some of us love the winter and all of the festive joy it brings, others dread the cold, short days and long for the summer to return. In extreme, yet not uncommon cases, Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, may be a recurrent form of depression in which a person’s mood can be seriously dependant on the changing of the seasons and weather. If you’re counting down the days to your summer holiday already, here’s some things that you can do to keep your spirits high in the meantime.

Go Outside
Although exposing yourself to the cold may be the last thing you want to do, being outside is one of the best ways of boosting your mood, even in the winter! Your body absorbs vitamin D from the sun, even when it’s cold and cloudy, which has been proven to help strengthen your bones and teeth, support the immune system and support a healthier body function. All of this will help you feel better both inside and out.

To support your natural vitamin D levels, you can purchase our Vitamin D3 Spray in clinic or on our website for just £12.

Have a Hot Bath
Indulge in a hot soak with all of your favourite scents and potions. This will give you that warm, summer sensation as well as a chance to have a time out to yourself, which is a fantastic way of calming yourself down any time of the year. The warm water will relax any tensions in your muscles, and you can even take some time afterwards to moisturise with some body butter.

Get Creative
Being creative affects the brain and body in lots of positive ways. It has been shown to improve mood, lower anxiety and heighten your cognitive function. Many therapists recommend taking up a creative hobby such as painting to clients, so picking up a new artistic hobby could do wonders for lifting your spirits through the winter months this year!

Eat Well
You can still enjoy warm, comfort food without all the extra calories that are often associated with them. Soups and casseroles packed full of vegetables will make you feel cosy and full, whilst being high in good nutrients. Spices like ginger, pepper and turmeric give that extra little boost to the immune system and improve circulation too.

Whatever you choose to do to get you through to summer, make sure that you keep your body and mind active, take time out for yourself, and the hot weather will be here in no time!
