Hypnotherapy is used by some therapists to help clients reach a state of total relaxation. In this state, the conscious and unconscious mind are more awake and receptable to repetitive verbal phrases and imagery that can ultimately cause a permanent change in their behaviours and beliefs.
It’s hard to say definitively why hypnotherapy is an effective tool for weight loss but there are studies into this being done all the time. What we do know is it is likely to help you shed an extra few pounds when combined with a good diet and exercise.
Dieting alone doesn’t stop the psychological desire to over-eat food, which is why it’s so common for people to put the weight on after a diet. In order to keep it off, you must first address the reason why you are eating more than you should in the first place – this is where hypnotherapy comes in.
The aim of hypnotherapy for weight loss is to help the patient feel more body confident and change negative thoughts about eating, whilst being responsible about emotional well-being. By doing this, the patient can start to develop a healthy and long-lasting relationship with food. Teaching people how to enjoy the taste of healthy foods will stop cravings for sugary unhealthy snacks. Hypnotherapy can also change thoughts about body confidence, so that this isn’t a source of anxiety –a common reason for over-eating.
Hypnotherapy works in different ways for everyone and the only way of knowing if it works for you is by trying it out. It’s important to use it as a complementary therapy for weight loss along with exercise and good eating habits, and with all these combined, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be a success!
